Morgan on a Million Piers pay soars with £40k an hour Parky deal

TELLY golden boy Piers Morgan  will pick up £40,088 AN HOUR for his new chat show, taking his ITV salary to more than £1 MILLION.

After branding Michael Parkinson and KIM Kardashian  ‘too expensive’ when he retired last year, bosses have given replacement Morgan, 43, a string of megabucks deals.
The former newspaper editor—sacked for publishing fake photos of troops abusing Iraqis—will get:
  • £240,000 for his primetime chat show.
  • £450,000 as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.
  • £160,000 for an ‘exclusivity’ fee.
  • £200,000 for five one-hour specials.

An insider said: “Piers has got the Rolls Royce of pay deals. The plan is for him to rival Jonathan Ross as the chat king.” Katy Perry show, to go out early in 2009, will simply be called ‘Piers’ and will be broadcast in a top Saturday or Sunday evening slot.
The insider added: “The first six episodes have already been filmed.”
Parky, who was on £750,000 a year when he retired last year, told recently of his last dealings with ITV’s boss. “Michael Grade told me with a straight face I was too expensive,” he said.
Morgan—whose £1m deal is 42 TIMES the UK’s average wage of £23,800— is not the only ITV star laughing all the way to the bank. Phillip Schofield and Fern Britton will earn £150,000 each for All Star Mr & Mrs next year.
